Each month the Arrowhead Park Association features one of its members, this month choosing our Dussel Drive Courtyard by Marriott. Find out more about this convenient and quality option for your business guests and visitors.
Still A Family Business
The Courtyard by Marriott on Dussel Drive is part of the largest hotel company in the world. However, according to General Manager Roxanne Collins, it still feels like a family business. The business was started in 1927 by Mr. and Mrs. Marriott as a root beer stand with homemade tamales in the Washington D.C. area. It grew into restaurants and then hotels. The second and third generation of Marriotts are still involved, and they still live by Mr. Marriott’s original mindset: “You take care of your employees, and they’ll take good care of your customers, and the customers will come back”.
Sorry to inform you, we have all been mispronouncing Marriott. The family says it as “Mary-it.”
The Bistro
The favorite feature of the “Courtyard” hotels by Marriott is the on-site restaurant. The casual Bistro with a full bar and day and night menus makes a convenient place to meet, mingle, and eat (pre-COVID-19). High-end menu items made from quality ingredients are delicious but still quick, and it is more relaxed than a formal sit down restaurant.
This hotel is the only “Starbucks, Proudly Serve” hotel in Maumee. (Is there a more delightful way to begin your day than with a Caramel Macchiato?)
With the current COVID-19 safety precautions, the Bistro has limited availability. Thankfully, a modified morning menu together with Starbucks coffee will reopen on November first. Selections will include a Healthy Start Sandwich, a brioche bacon and egg sandwich, oatmeal, yogurt, bagels, and fruit. Mrs. Collins looks forward to returning to the full menu someday with her breakfast favorite of indulgent banana-nut-bread french toast.
Waiting for Travel to Return
The travel industry has been hit hard by the pandemic. Ms. Collins is still missing some team members who are furloughed during COVID-19. The picture below is team members who are eager to see travel return to a pre-pandemic normal. Collins delivered gift bags to each employee, and they had to be put together to see the message. “We are all in this together. We love and miss our Maumee Courtyard Family. Take Care.”

Special Rates
The hotel is offering special rates for COVID-19 responders. This Community Caregiver rate is 25% off the government rate and available until the end of the year. They also offer an Arrowhead Park Association rate that is 15% off the regular rate for association members. Just ask.
“We have long-term relationships with several big companies in the area. They have negotiated corporate rates and regular guests. These loyal customers have been with us since before I started as Assistant and then General Manager 13 (out of my 25 years with the company) years ago,” shared Mrs. Collins. This is not surprising considering the high ratings and great features.
