Arrowhead Park Association
Member of the Month – September 2018
Each month, the APA plans to feature one randomly chosen member; this month Meyer Hill Lynch. We hope you can use these brief overviews to learn more about your neighbors and reach out to network and create relationships that help you grow your businesses.
Meyer Hill Lynch
Meyer Hill Lynch started as the brain child of Stuart Love and Robert Shick, who took the plunge in 1989 to start a business refurbishing and reselling used computer equipment. By the early 2000s, they had a warehouse of used equipment and a crew for testing and cleaning. Stuart and Rob saw that the technology world was changing quickly and the need for mainframes, their most profitable item, was dying off. They decided to sell the refurb business to an employee, and Rob and Stuart went back to the drawing board.
They began their plan for the new business with a list of 12 things that most companies do wrong… and set to do those right. The two owners created a brand new, carefully constructed business plan to become a small IT provider in the Toledo area. That plan was left in the dust within six months, although the list of 12 goals remains to this day. Learning from every job, MHL quickly became one of the largest IT providers in the area with a full staff of diversely trained and certified engineers.
30 Years Strong
30 years later, in its second location in Arrowhead Park, MHL offers IT services to a broad range of industries. Its products, specialty skills and solutions constantly evolve to manage the current computer hardware and network needs of its clients. Newer product additions include a bundled network security offering which combines disaster recovery systems to help recover from complete system loss or ransomware, with security services and off-site backup. These services can complement an internal IT department, or MHL can provide full-service IT to companies who would rather outsource. You can see more of its impressive services list and client list on www.mhl.com.
To celebrate its 30th Anniversary, MHL will provide 30 acts of kindness for the community. These hand-on activities for organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of NWO and St. Paul Community Center are a way for MHL to give back and thank the Toledo area. Keep an eye on social media to see the 30 events and activities as they happen.
10 years ago, MHL took active steps to strengthen the organization going forward. Stock was offered to employees, and middle management was trained to lead. The Information Technology industry typically sees a high employee turnover rate. In contrast, Meyer Hill Lynch is proud of its great retention rate. Their first engineer is still with the company, and the average retention rate is over 10 years.
MHL enjoys their Arrowhead Park location close to the highway. The engineers find it convenient to reach many of their customers, reducing travel billing, and love the easy in and out of the park. The business is very appreciative of the support of the APA and the City of Maumee.
