Chef Gretchen Fayerweather graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she received a Masters in teaching, a Bachelors in Food Service Management and an Associate in Culinary Arts. She has worked in restaurants and hotels from Massachusetts to Florida acting as Chef, Food and Beverage Manager, and Sous Chef. After the birth of her son, Chef Gretchen and her husband decided it was time to be closer to family, left Rhode Island and moved to Maumee, Ohio. Chef Gretchen became a full time Professor at Owens Community College, and taught full time in the Food, Nutrition and Hospitality department since 2007. Through her service to students and the community she has received a number of local industry awards including being named Maumee Valley Chefs Associations Chef of the Year in 2012, as well as the Presidents Award and Chef Professionalism.
In 2014 Chef Gretchen achieved the designation of Certified Executive Chef® from the American Culinary Federation. The CEC® is a mark of excellence and distinction in the culinary industry.
Chef Gretchen came to Clara J’s Tea Room in May of 2017, in November of 2017 she and her husband purchased the building and in September took ownership of Clara J’s Tea Room. Chef Gretchen’s goal has been to always show enthusiasm and passion for not only providing great food, but creating a welcoming experience for each and every guest.
